Meet Darcy LaPier, star of the new A&E reality show, Rodeo Girls, which follows a group of headstrong female pro barrel racers. (Rodeo Girls airs on A&E Thursdays at 9p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT)
LaPier has already emerged as the show’s most polarizing figure, with the Boston Herald declaring in its review of the premiere episode, “Darcy LaPier is the vortex for much of the drama.”
And LaPier is the first to admit she may rub some the wrong way, but the single-mom-of-three (her son Nic make his debut in the Dec. 26 episode) contextualizes it as confidence. And LaPier has weathered the storm of public scrutiny before, having been married to actor Jean-Claude Van Damme, whose split was fodder for the tabloids.
LaPier spoke to gossipdavid.com about her critics, her dating status — and if her famous ex is watching the show:
Is Rodeo Girls good for the image of female pro barrel racers?
The show is good for the image of female pro barrel racers because very few people knew about the rodeo life, and what it takes to be a barrel racer. Rodeo barrel racing is what I do, so I wanted to bring light to it and tell my story.
If you weren’t racing barrels what you be doing?
Creating more television and businesses.
Did your ex-husband Jean-Claude Van Damme see the show’s premiere?
Yes — He loved it!
Are you dating now?
One review said you have an “ego the size of Texas.” Your response?
I think they’re misrepresenting ego for self-confidence and you need self confidence to do what I do.
Why do some of the others on the show seem to resent you or are jealous of you?
Those who are jealous or resent me are because they’re insecure with themselves.
What do you hope to get out of the show?
I hope that I can inspire people to find their passion and live their dream.
