They’re gorgeous, glamorous gals-about-town — and they’re coming to the Style Network on Sunday, July 21.
We’re talking about the thirtysomething stars of the new reality show City Girl Diaries: PR titan Kelly Brady of Brandsway Creative, fashion designer Leila Shams, TV personality Raina Seitel, gossip columnist Marianne Garvey, and Leigh Rossini, who runs an NYC salon.
According to the Style Network these “best friends are taking viewers on a high-class journey through their fast-paced New York City lives. From epic girl-talk sessions to tumultuous love lives to demanding careers, City Girl Diaries offers a glimpse into the lives of driven women and their metropolitan playground.”
And in a nod to some possible drama and conflict on the Sex and the City-esque show, the Style Network adds, “despite their drastically different personalities and busy careers, these women remain inseparable as they navigate old friends, new beginnings and awkward situations.”
What’s in store for the July 21 series premiere? Kelly’s age is questioned by the girls after she throws herself a lavish birthday party, Leila begs a former publicist who fired her to take her back, and Leigh comes to terms that her Brooklyn abode is too small for her growing family.
Check out the video below for a preview of City Girl Diaries (airing at 9pm/8c), and some Instagram snaps of Kelly and Leila taken while the quintet shot the show.
Below, Kelly and Leila speak to gossipdavid.com, about their personalities, which cast member is high-maintenance, and their thoughts on airing in the same time slot as Keeping Up With The Kardashians — and their plans to steal the attention away from newborn North West!
Is it fair to describe City Girl Diaries as a reality show version of Sex & The City?
Kelly: Yes. That’s the premise and we are definitely a modern day version.
OK, who’s the Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte?
Leila: I think we all want to be Carrie. No one wants to be an old slut — or a prude or a boring redhead!
Kelly: (laughing) Leila is right! Everyone would like to be as cool and as fashionable as Carrie.
Which character do you one do you most identify with?
Kelly: Carrie, but obviously the one that I should identfy with is Samantha since I’m in PR. However our lifestyles are very different. I actually think I could be a mix of Carrie, Samantha and Charlotte.
If you had to describe each City Girl Diaries cast member, including yourselves, in one or two words what would it be?
Leila: Since we’re real people that’s kind of hard to do. But I’d say Leigh is a ball-buster, Raina is high maintenance, Marianne is super driven, Kelly is a PR maven and I’m artsy-fartsy.
Kelly: Leigh is the “Ring Leader”, who tries to call the shots. Marianne is the “Go Getter;” she set goals and then achieves them. Raina is “sweet, sassy and definitely high maintenance.” Leila is the “Talented free-sprited Artist” that will have you peeing your pants with laughter. And myself? Career driven PR Power Girl? [a nod to the 2005 MTV reality show PoweR Girls, in which Brady starred.] I don’t know. It’s hard for me to talk about myself!
How would you two describe your friendship with each other?
Leila: True love. Separated at birth
Kelly: Once we found each other in New York, we were inseparable. She even moved next door to me on Mercer Street!
What makes your group of friends worthy of a reality show compared to other groups of women in the city?
Leila: We’re funny and can laugh at ourselves and each other.
Kelly: I second that. Plus, I’d like to add that we are real friends with real careers in entertainment and of course we have real life problems. And together, we help each other conquer what we need to get to the next step of success.
How does this compare to The Real Housewives of New York: Both are about a group of women in New York who are social butterflys. Do the comparisons end there?
Leila: The most interesting thing most of them do is get drunk and fight with each other. That’s the least interesting thing we do! We have careers and interesting lives.
Kelly: I think the truth of the matter is in the title: They are housewives and we are career women who are going through real life issues. We are not perfect and we are not afraid to show the audience that. We are hard-working best friends who really truly want to see each other succeed no mater what life deals us.
OK, which pair of the cast are the most at odds with each other?
Leila: I’m not sure what made it to the show but probably Leigh and Raina had the biggest fight while filming.
Kelly: We dont really fight — we have small tiffs. You will have to watch the show to see what happens.
Raina is divorced and single and ready to mingle. Are you playing matchmaker for her?
Leila: Raina has been single for awhile. We all tried to set Raina up but she’s a tough customer.
Kelly: We all tried to set Raina up. She goes on a lot of dates that we set her up on — on the show — another reason to tune in because Raina has a way with men that is fun to watch!
Both of you work with celebs, but now you’ll be on the other side, so to speak. Are your celeb clients (whether clients of the firm or clients who you dress) fine with that?
Leila: I don’t work directly with celebs, a separate PR firm [Factory PR] handles my press.
Kelly: I don’t see myself as a celebrity and I never will. My clients come first and they are the real celebrities. I decided to do this show to showcase my business, to promote the appropriate clients on national TV, to show the world that women can be successful with out being catty and the power of best friends.
You share a timeslot with The Princesses of Long Island on Bravo and the juggernaut of Keeping Up With The Kardashians on Style’s sister network, E!. Do you think that’s a tough slot to snag and keep viewers?
Leila: Fuck I didn’t realize that. We’re screwed! Luckily most people despise the Princesses and the Kardashians. We’re certainly the least irritating show in that time slot!
Kelly: Shit! I didn’t either – you better promote this article so that we can we can get viewers, GossipDavid.com!
How will you compete with Kim and all the North West drama?
Leila: Kelly and I are going to have a baby. And name it Shady Brady!
