When the twittersphere lit up last month with sightings of the cast of The Real Housewives of Vancouver filming the show’s second season, a new round of chatter erupted: Who was dumped from the show? Who are the newcomers? Are Ronnie Negus and once-BFF Mary Zilba still at odds? Are Jody Claman and Mary still at war?
Well, the producers aren’t saying who will appear on the Housewives‘ sole Canadian franchise, but Ronnie and Jody were spotted filming at a Vancouver coffee shop in early October. And in interview with GossipDavid.com, Ronnie remained tight-lipped about specifics of the upcoming season, premiering early next year on Canada’s Slice network. (Available online elsewhere.)
But, she was less buttoned-up about her once warm-and-fuzzy relationship with single mom-singer Mary. The pair had been close friends until the middle of the show’s first season, and then, fueled by accusations of disloyalty, their relationship disintegrated. (Mary did not approve of Ronnie’s friendship with Jody, and she scrutinized Ronnie’s enjoyment of wine and liquor.)
When asked what the current status of her and Mary’s relationship is, Ronnie coyly said, “I didn’t need to do this show to promote a singing career. I’m in a space in my life, where I’m happily married, I have great kids. I’m not hungry. I don’t need the cash. I’m the only Housewives [cast member] who gave the cash to charity.”
Ronnie continues, “I think sometimes when you’re at the stage in your life, where your boyfriend left you for a younger girl, and your singing career never really worked, you will do anything or say anything to get to the top — even if that means stepping on someone’s head or trying to make yourself look better than someone else. Life is too short. I don’t want to compete with my friends. I felt it was such a race to the top…I love her and wish her all the best. But I think the show brought a lot of her insecurities to the top.”
Bottom line? They’re no longer tight: “It’s unfortunate that our relationship has been tested, and maybe something came to a boil,” Ronnie says. “And this is my hurt. And truthfully, I wish her and all the girls on the show love and happiness. If Mary was to win the lottery tomorrow, I would be happy. I truly, truly do. Its unfortunate the relationship has been tested, but at the end of the day, I have a good heart.”
Ronnie says it was Mary who encouraged her to do RHOV. “I didn’t need to do the show. She begged me, and begged and begged for three months. I’m like, ‘Theres no way. Honey, this works for you. You need it. I don’t. I didn’t think I would go on it. Being famous and making money are so not on my plate. I did it for a life experience.”
And Ronnie, who has a daughter, Remy, with special needs, says the support from viewers in similar situations — and the inspiration she’s provided them — has made the show worth it. (Ronnie’s salary goes to a special needs charity)
“After [the episode with] Remy aired, I had 943 private Facebook messages, like ‘I cannot thank you for bringing into the light that you have this child with special needs because I have a relative, a family member, a sister who is autistic or who has special needs or they struggle in this capacity,” Ronnie says. “If I can make one person’s life easier, my job is done. For me to know I’ve helped people, then this entire experience has been worth it. I’ve always told my older children, ‘Go into the world and do well, but go into the world and do good as well.”

Ronnie totally trashes Mary and then says how much she loves her. She’s a total backstabber and phony. To always point out that Mary doesn’t have as much money as she does, is very tacky. Ronnie didnt write the article, but the above comments look like they all come from mary and her sons fake accounts they created it was documented in the the paper last year. I dont normally write on these sites but felt compelled after my husband and I read the above comments, we dont think Ronnie sounds bad at all actually took the high road in the interview and seems jealousy of perhaps her cast mate is the real issue here,so what if Ronnie has more than mary is she suppose to appologize for it or feel bad for it? We watched the reunion the only genuine one on the show is Ronnie, she was heart felt talking about her daughter and mary while mary had a stern look on her face, it was almost eerie,I have been a teacher for 22 years, and I am a good judge of character, Ronnie was the only one who dontated her paycheck to help special needs children. My nephew has Downs Syndrome, its people like Ronnie that have our vote and always will. You are a fabulous mother keep up the good work.
