The cast of Oxygen’s Girlfriend Confidential: NY, debuting next summer, enjoys a night out at Georgica in East Hampton, N.Y. (from left): Kelly Brady, Marianne Garvey, Leigh Cherrier, Leila Shams and Raina Setel.
TV viewers next year will meet a new crop of go-getting glamazons, when Oxygen debuts the new reality series, Girlfriend Confidential: NY. Think Girls-meets-Sex and The City.
The show follows a group of friends as they juggle their personal and professional lives: Kelly Brady, PR firm owner; Leigh Cherrier; beauty director for Louis Licari; Marianne Garvey; celebrity weekly editor; Leila Shams; fashion designer and Raina Seitel; TV personality.
The series was previously titled Taking New York — and ads for the show with that title even ran on NYC buses and subways — but the title as now been changed to Girlfriend Confidential: NY, so it may be franchised with its West Coast sibling, Girlfriend Confidential: LA.
In an interview with GossipDavid.com, Kelly — who starred in the 2005 MTV reality series PoweR Girls about a group of NYC publicists — dishes about her new show, and whether she feels a common bond now with Kim Kardashian!
There’s the Real Housewives franchise, Sex and The City, Girls, and a slew of other female-centric programming out there. How does Girlfriend Confidential: NY differ?
Our show is meant to be the opposite of Bravo’s Housewives and more a mixture of Girls and Sex and The City. We are all in our early-to-mid 30s going after our goals of being successful business women in New York City. We lean on each other for support and we all help each other get to the top.
Is the show going to be really intense?
The show is meant to be inspiring, yet funny with a lot of laugh-out-loud moments allowing the audience to identify with us and root for us along our journey.
This is your second reality show. Do you relate to the Kardashians now?
Absolutely not!
How has this experience been different from shooting PoweR Girls in 2005?
PoweR Girls showed a group of early 20-somethings in New York figuring out what we wanted in life. In this show we all know what we want, we are close to getting it and we’re going after it!
I’m 33 now, and I was 23 when I filmed PoweR Girls, so this literally shows me 10 years later, all grown up. PoweR Girls captured me learning how to be a publicist from one of the best teachers in the biz, Lizzie Grubman. This show will show me now running my own company [Brandsway Creative], running a team of nine people, and an impressive client list.
Im excited for this show. I live in Pittsburgh so this is a dose of glamour I need even if I end up hating them lol
Thanks for getting the hottest one to speak david!
Do we really need another show like this? I guess I know the answer
